The body tends to lose strength, balance, and flexibility with age, which gives rise to an increased risk of falling and becoming injured. The elderly are more vulnerable to falls than anyone else. To reduce the risk of falls, seniors must take good care of their feet.

It’s almost September! We at All-In-One Foot Care Center can help you prevent dangerous falls by taking care of your foot health. It’s National Falls Prevention Month.

Falling risk can be reduced with the following tips:

1. Maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Foot health is improved by regular exercise. Injuries and falls are less likely to happen when muscles are strengthened and balance and flexibility are improved. Your feet will also be less stressed if you maintain a healthy weight.

2. Examine your eyes every year.

Falls and injuries are more likely to occur when you have poor vision. Your optometrist can significantly reduce fall risk by performing an eye exam every year. Foot pain shouldn’t be ignored. By altering the way you walk to avoid your feet hurting, you risk losing your balance. Symptoms like pain, aches, and symptoms in the feet are not normal – visit your podiatrist if you experience any of these.

3. Make your home safe by removing hazards.

In most cases, a fall at home occurs over half of the time. Keep an eye out for any risks that could result in injuries or falls in your home. Keep your house well-lit. You should tidy up the main living space by removing cords and small furniture items. Whenever you spill something on the floor, make sure to clean it up as soon as possible. The toilets and showers need grab bars and handrails for the stairways.
