In any event, chronic foot pain stops you from doing your favorite activities, whether you are a run enthusiast, a recreational athlete, or even just someone who enjoys walking around town. In the event you decide to push through your foot pain, you can end up with long-term damage or stronger symptoms. So what can you do to stop chronic foot pain?

The first thing we can do for you has diagnosed the cause, and then create a treatment plan to resolve the problem effectively. Our practice allows us to treat many common sports injuries without the need for surgical procedures, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, stress fractures, etc.

If you suffer from chronic foot pain, we might recommend the following options for you based on your condition and its severity:

  • It is recommended to rest, ice, compress, and elevate the patient
  • A pain reliever such as ibuprofen or aspirin that is available over-the-counter or on prescription
  • Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendon stretching exercises
  • In addition to orthotics, padding, and shoe inserts can be used to make shoes more arch-supporting (either custom orthotics or padding added to existing shoes)
  • Aqua aerobics or swimming are water-based exercises
  • Taking a foot soak in warm water

In most cases, chronic foot pain is a result of overuse. You may benefit from wearing shoes that offer additional support, foot, and ankle stability, and protection if you live an active lifestyle – and we highly recommend that you do – or if you work for extended periods of time on your feet. We have foot experts who can guide you in choosing the right type of footwear for you! Come into our Surprise, AZ office and speak with one of them before purchasing new shoes.

There are many treatments that can also be used to prevent injuries from occurring. You can lower your Achilles tendinitis risk by stretching your lower legs and feet first thing in the morning, right before any exercises, and right before going to bed at night.

By losing weight in a healthy way, you can also reduce your risk of developing chronic foot pain if you have gained weight—other than weight gained during pregnancy! The nutrients you need to keep your muscles and bones strong can also be obtained by eating well.
